I am constantly asked questions about running a home business, and I love being in a position to help others get started. Here are some of the questions I encounter most often, but if you have another one, please feel free to contact me. If I can’t answer it myself, I’ll help you find someone who can.

How do I choose the right home business?

The right home business is different for everyone. You need to think about what you are good at, what you enjoy doing, and what you’d like to learn about.

Why is Internet Marketing so popular?

Because anyone can start an Internet Marketing home business. And, you can make it a business about something you are passionate about at the same time. Internet marketing is basically the selling of products online for which you earn a commission, so you can choose products that reflect your interests or that you are knowledgeable about, which in turn will help you sell them.

Internet Marketing sounds good, but I have no expertise in website building or the other technical stuff, so can I still do it?

Absolutely! I had an advantage, since my other half can design and develop websites, but I’ve learnt how to do it myself now too. You don’t always need your own website, but when you do, you can get help from the same place I did:

Although 1and1.com is cheaper than joining Wealthy Affiliate, you’ll miss out on the coaching, training and support you get from WA – and that far outweighs the price difference.

What’s the secret to your success?

I haven’t achieved all my home business goals yet, so I feel I’m still en route to success! The secret? There is no secret – and there’s no magic button to press that will guarantee your success either. All there is, is commitment, dedication, determination, effort and time. Invest those in your home business, and you’ll find success. I also believe a sense of humor helps!

How much will starting a home business cost me?

That depends on what type of business you want to start. An internet marketing home business needs a computer with an internet connection, and a desk to put it on.  Other than the cost of joining Wealthy Affiliate, I didn’t outlay a cent in the first 18 months of my internet marketing business – because WA showed me how to do just that, and I didn’t have any cash to outlay anyway! Of course, if you’re starting a handyman business you’ll need tools and transportation, a home beauty salon will need equipment and supplies, and so on.

Why should I believe you – I don’t know a thing about you?

I’m an average person with a few skills that I’ve managed to put to use in my home businesses. Funnily enough, my biggest strength is dealing with people – and here I am staring at a computer most days! Now I use my writing to reach the people I can’t meet in person.

What helped you most in starting a home business?

Let me tell you, debt collectors are a great motivational tool – but not one I’d recommend! Seriously though, my mother has a super-positive attitude and a keep-smiling mantra that really helps you get through the tough times – she’s an inspiration! She also deeply believes in the value of hard work, and I’m grateful that she passed that on to me. In my internet marketing business WealthyAffiliate.com were, and continue to be, invaluable. Their site is jam-packed full of useful tools and resources. The WA community itself is amazing – I’ve never come across so many people willing to share their experiences and offer advice.
